Meiningen: Guide



Meiningen es un pueblo de Alemania - localizado en el sur del estado de Turingia en el distrito de Schmalkalden-Meiningen.

El lugar fue mencionado por primera vez en 982 y fue carteado en 1344. Sus habitantes son conocidos como los Meininger.

Situada al lado del río Werra la ciudad tiene hoy cerca de 26,000
habitantes.

Historia


Entre 1680 y 1918, fue parte de Sajonia-Meiningen. En 1699 llegó contratado a la orquesta de la corte Johann Ludwig Bach (familiar lejano de Johann Sebastian Bach), quien llegó a ser director musical y su descendencia se estableció ahí. El coleccionista de cuentos de hadas y escritor Ludwig Bechstein fue un archivista en Meiningen.

Teatro

El teatro fue llamado el Meininger. En él se presentan obras de teatro y tiene salas de concierto y es un modelo efectivo en Alemania y Europa. Artistas como Hans Guido von Bülow trabajó ahí. La actividad del Theaterherzogs Jorge II de Sajonia-Meiningen (1866-1914) le llevó a la celebridad internacional. Bülow fue reemplazado por Max Reger entre 1911 y 1914. Con la Primera Guerra Mundial fue cerrado el teatro.
