Saarbrücken (en francés Sarrebruck) es la capital del estado federado del Sarre (Saarland), a orillas del río Saar. Se encuentra al sur de la República Federal Alemana y está muy próxima a la frontera francesa, así como también está cerca de Luxemburgo.
Historia
1806, Saarbrücken pasa a formar parte del Primer Imperio Francés.
1815, tras el congreso de Viena, la ciudad pasa a control de Prusia.
1870, guerra franco-prusiana.
1918, al terminar la Primera Guerra Mundial, Saarbrücken pasa a ser administrada por la Sociedad de Naciones (SN), bajo control de Francia.
1935, la población se pronuncia por la readeshion a Alemania, por lo que entra a formar parte del Tercer Reich.
1945, al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Saarbrücken queda enteramente destruida por los aliados.

Economía
En el transcurso del siglo XIX, la ciudad construyó su prosperidad sobre la producción de acero.
La ciudad mantiene relaciones estrechas con la Mosela. Prueba de ello es la "Eurozona" que Saarbrücken forma junto con Forbach. Por otra parte, existe un TER (Train Express Régional) Metz-Sarrebrücken.
Por su ubicación geográfica central dentro de la Unión Europea (UE), se beneficia del tránsito de mercancías por la región, especialmente el intercambio comercial entre Francia y Alemania.
