Blackpool: Guide
Blackpool (literalmente: charco negro) es una localidad costera del noroeste de Inglaterra. Tradicionalmente ha pertenecido al Lancashire, pero desde el 1 de abril de 1998 es una autoridad unitaria independiente.
Se cree que el nombre proviene de un canal de drenaje de una turbera (mina de turba). El agua que penetraba en el mar era negra por el color de la turba que llevaba con ella, por lo que formaba un charco negro en las relativamente limpias aguas del Mar de Irlanda.
Las fronteras de la ciudad están trazadas de forma que parecen apretadas, y excluyen los inmediatamente cercanos asentamientos de Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Thornton, Poulton-le-Fylde y Lytham St Anne's. El municipio de Blackpool, a diferencia de sus colindantes, está completamente urbanizado, en parte debido a su pequeño tamaño.
